MYMediaPlayer is down.
Another application I developed that had Hulu embedded videos has stopped working. On June 16th I released MYMediaPlayer, which is a desktop application developed in Adobe Air. The response I received was awesome from both the users and the blogosphere. MYMediaPlayer filled a void that Hulu.com has by not using a browser to watch Hulu videos, this allowed users to continue to work and watch at the same time. Also you could continuously watch a video and navigate the video library, right now on Hulu.com if you navigate the library you cannot watch a video. Users could also scale the application to fit on 30 inch monitors.

MYMediaPlayer
On June 26th users who try and use the application are sent this message from Hulu. No embedded videos work in MYMediaPlayer, I tried everyone else who uses embedded players from Hulu and they all work. Why have my embedded videos been taken down?

On June 16th, I released MYMediaPlayer and was reported on TVSquad, DownloadSquad, JoostTeam. The very next day all Hulu embedded videos were taken down and reported by NewTeeVee here "Hulu Embeds Down Across the Web". Hulu responded "We were performing maintenance on the site early this morning. The embeds should be back up shortly."

Hulu Media Player
On February 1st, I released Hulu Media Player which was reported by RWW,which was a AppleTV like application that had Hulu embedded videos. A few weeks later the embedded videos in Hulu Media Player were no longer working.

MYMediaPlayer on the Web
This is the third time the embedded videos from Hulu have stopped working on my applications. The past two times I simply let it go and kept quiet.

So here is my response, I basically ported MYMediaPlayer to be web based and is live right now, you can see it here. Time will tell if the embedded videos stop working on this app, if they do then basically it will confirm to me what is happening .

Final Thoughts

Hulu.com is a great site has had a meteoric rise to the top of the list. One of the main reasons is that they allowed the embedding of their videos, CBS realized this and have adjusted their thinking to support embeds more openly.

Any site no matter how big (MySpace, Facebook, Twitter) have grown because they have API's, Hulu does not support API's. They realize that they can grow exponentially if third party developers build apps they dont have the resources for, or didnt even imagine building.

I have never made one dime on embedding Hulu videos on my site, even though there are plenty of sites that are doing so. I have never modified the embedded player or ran scripts on the player. All commercials/ads/logos etc that are supposed to shown or played in the player are. I never received an email or been contacted by anyone from Hulu informing me of non compliant behavior. So I question why do all my apps that have Hulu embeds continuously stop working after a few weeks? The last thing any third party developer wants is having an app they developed simply be shutdown without notice.
